Empathy

It’s more than “just business.” We are all living a life we didn’t expect, no matter how much planning we put into it. Our boss is dealing with something we know nothing about, our client has just heard something she didn’t want to hear, our employee is struggling more they are letting on.

It takes no more effort to reach someone where they are than it does to force your perspective. We will all arrive at the long term much sooner than we expect, and if my rather long career has taught me anything at this point, it’s that a little grace right now pays out in ways we can’t currently anticipate.
